PRAGUE – Public officials and transport professionals from the Western Balkans, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine gathered in Prague, Czechia from 1 to 3 July 2025 for the Digital Mobility and ITS Summer School, a three-day programme dedicated to shaping the future of transport across the region.

Organised by the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community and the Regional School of Public Administration (ReSPA), the Summer School boosted skills and knowledge of public officials and transport professionals working to make transport smarter, greener, and more connected. Through interactive sessions where they learned directly from experts, the participants explored new technologies and designed their own digital mobility strategies in hands-on workshops.

Digital mobility means using technology to make travel simpler, cleaner, and more user-friendly: from mobile apps and contactless tickets to data-sharing systems that help buses and trains run on time. These tools are essential to building a fairer, greener transport system for everyone, supporting goals to cut carbon emissions and improve accessibility.

During the Summer School, participants engaged in discussions about how to make transport systems more secure, connected, and resilient. Topics included digital public transport services, autonomous vehicles, and how to link road, rail, and waterways through digital tools. The programme combined expert talks, interactive sessions, and group projects, where participants developed plans for a fictional city’s digital transport future.

This year’s edition of the Summer School provided necessary insights into the future of transport, as the Western Balkans and observing participants look to modernise their transport networks in line with EU standards.
