20 May 2021 – 12th Regional Steering Committee Meeting

The 12th meeting of the Regional Steering Committee (RSC) was held today in hybrid form – live in Belgrade and online. All members of the RSC were present as well as representatives of DG MOVE, and observers of the European Union Member States: Greece, Romania, Croatia, Malta. The meeting was Chaired by RSC Chair Mr Zoran Andric and Co-Chair Mr Harvey Rouse.

Transport Community Permanent Secretariat presented Draft Strategy for Sustainable and Smart Mobility in the Western Balkans. The purpose of the document is to develop the strategy which would mirror the EU’s Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy adopted in 2020 and its flagships and milestones. The final document can be used as a tool for Regional Partners in developing their own strategies and will be a good basis for discussion on what can be achieved on regional level during the next Ministerial Council. RSC endorsed the Draft Strategy for Sustainable and Smart Mobility in the Western Balkans. The final version of the document will be prepared and presented at the Ministerial Council on 5th July 2021, as one of its main deliverables.

The Action Plan for Waterborne Transport and Multimodality was also presented at the meeting. The Action Plan covers inland waterways, port and multimodality. The document cover all forms of transport (except aviation). European Commission welcomed the draft document as a blueprint for guiding the work of the technical committee for waterborne transport and multimodality in the future. Additional issues discussed at the meeting were rules with fiscal implications, Annex I of the TCT Treaty, upcoming events to mark the European Year of Rail, as well as preparations for the Ministerial Council on 5th July.
