BELGRADE – Bosnia and Herzegovina has officially assumed the Presidency of the Transport Community Regional Steering Committee, taking over from Albania during the Committee’s 32nd meeting, held in Belgrade on 21 October 2026.
The official handover marks the beginning of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 2026–2027 Presidency, following Albania’s year at the helm. The Presidency will guide the Committee’s work in advancing regional transport cooperation and strengthening connections between the Western Balkans and the European Union.
Mr Zoran Andrić, Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that Bosnia and Herzegovina would like to commend the Presidency of Albania for its leadership, commitment and valuable contribution over the past year, ensuring continuity in the implementation of important regional initiatives and reforms. “Building on this strong foundation, we are committed to maintaining momentum and further advancing our shared objectives,” he noted and added that building on the progress achieved to date, Bosnia and Herzegovina will work closely with all Parties, the European Commission and the Permanent Secretariat to further strengthen the role of the Transport Community as the leading regional platform for transport policy coordination, reform implementation and strategic connectivity.
“We believe the Transport Community today has an even greater role to play in shaping a modern and sustainable transport system, while delivering concrete benefits to citizens and economies across the region,” Mr Andrić concluded.
Mr Ermal Murati, Acting General Director for Policies and Development of Infrastructure and Territory of Albania, representing the outgoing Presidency of Albania, said that during Albania’s Presidency, Albania has worked in close partnership with the Transport Community Secretariat, regional partners, and the European Commission to advance shared transport priorities.
“This cooperation has contributed to progress on key regional initiatives, including Green Lanes, alternative fuels infrastructure, and transport reforms. We greatly value our continued partnership with the Secretariat, particularly its technical assistance in aligning Albania’s legislation with the EU acquis under Chapters 14 and 21, as well as its support in the development of our National Transport Strategy 2030. As we look ahead, we remain committed to further strengthening this cooperation and warmly wish Bosnia and Herzegovina every success in its upcoming Presidency, as we continue our collective efforts to build a more connected, sustainable, and increasingly EU-integrated Western Balkans,” Mr Murati pointed out.
The Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community looks forward to working closely with the incoming Presidency, regional partners and the European Commission to support transport reforms and translate shared commitments into safer, more efficient and more sustainable connections for people and businesses.
The Regional Steering Committee oversees implementation of the Transport Community Treaty and prepares the work of the Ministerial Council. Its rotating Presidency provides continuity in steering joint efforts towards closer integration of the region’s transport systems with the EU.
