PETROVAC – Representatives of the Western Balkans met in Petrovac, Montenegro on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, to discuss steps towards easier road transport and faster movement across borders. The programme brought together a workshop on the Western Balkans Register of Road Transport Undertakings (WBRRU) and the 22nd meeting of the Transport Community’s Technical Committee on Transport Facilitation.
The planned register would help authorities exchange information about road transport companies more efficiently. During the workshop, the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community and the project team presented progress on its development and discussed how it could connect with existing registers. Regional partners shared updates on their preparations, including the contacts, information and testing needed before the system can be put into use.
The afternoon meeting looked at wider efforts to make cross-border transport work better. Participants discussed the roadmap for opening up the regional road transport market and confirmed the Progress Report on the implementation of the Transport Facilitation Action Plan. They also heard updates on work to improve priority border crossings and provide better facilities for truck drivers.
Regional organisations, road transport associations and chambers of commerce shared their perspectives on the challenges faced by transport operators and businesses. Their input helps keep the focus on improvements that matter in practice: clearer procedures, less time lost at borders and more reliable journeys.
The Transport Community will continue working with regional partners and stakeholders to turn these discussions into improvements for people and businesses travelling across the Western Balkans.
