DOJRAN – The Transport Community joined the celebration of the European Mobility Week by actively promoting cycling as an alternative mode of transportation to raise awareness on the importance of saving energy and of environmental protection.

Together with Minister of Transport and Communications of North Macedonia, Mr Blagoj Bochvarski, Mayor of the Municipality of Dojran, Mr Ango Angov, and young people, Transport Community Director, Mr Matej Zakonjšek, joined the promotional bike ride in the city on Thursday, 21 September.

“The European Mobility Week is the time when we are thinking of ways to move through our cities and villages in a different, green, and sustainable way, in a healthy way. This is not only in the European Union but throughout Europe, and I am really pleased that today, with Minister Bochvarski and the Mayor Angov, and the present young people, we are in Dojran promoting cycling. Through this, we set a great example of how we can influence the improvement of the quality of the environment through healthy alternative transportation,” said Mr Zakonjšek.

The Green Agenda is a high priority for the Ministry of Transport and Communications, where we are taking a series of measures and activities to promote it as a government policy for environmental protection and reducing air pollution, emphasised Mr Bochvarski during today’s visit to the municipality of Dojran.

“If we want a healthier environment, a better future for ourselves and our children, we must change our daily habits. Therefore, I believe that reform in the transportation systems is necessary. This is one of the alternative forms of transportation through which, starting with the youngest and including all citizens, we want to raise awareness about the use of alternative transportation methods that not only reduce air pollution but also save energy,” he added.

“These are truly beautiful activities where we involve children in learning healthy habits and positive actions that are important for environmental protection. As a local government, we strive to protect the environment, and for this purpose, we have undertaken a series of activities to protect Lake Dojran as a top priority,” Mr Angov pointed out.

The European Mobility Week is the European Commission’s flagship awareness-raising campaign on sustainable urban mobility. It promotes behavioural change in favour of active mobility, public transport, and other clean, intelligent transport solutions.
