Transport Community’s Technical Committee for Waterborne Transport and Multimodality Discusses Port Efficiency and Effectiveness

ROME – The Transport Community’s Technical Committee for Waterborne Transport and Multimodality held its 9th meeting at the Port of Civitavecchia in Rome, Italy on 29 February. The meeting discussed the improvement of process efficiency and effectiveness in ports and gathered key stakeholders and experts from across Europe and beyond.

Opening the meeting, the Transport Community Permanent Secretariat representative underlined the commitment to advancing waterborne transport across the Western Balkans. Emphasising the key role of ports as vital nodes in global trade networks, discussions centered around strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of port operations, crucial for ensuring seamless trade flows.

The meeting also discussed port efficiency, the Maritime Single Window initiative, digitalisation and streamlining of maritime trade processes, as well as capacity building for sustainable port operations.

The participants also deliberated about the a new Transport Community’s Action Plan for Waterborne Transport and Multimodality, setting a course towards a more sustainable, efficient, and safer waterborne transport system.

The meeting concluded with a study visit to the Port of Civitavecchia, providing attendees with firsthand insights into port facilities and operations.
