Workshops on the Deployment of Smart and Sustainable Mobility in the Western Balkans

Tirana – As a part of the regional project implemented by CONNECTA, a two-day workshop was organised in on 22 – 23 November focused on smart, green and resilient mobility.

On the first day, CONNECTA presented the project results, namely the activities from the project’s first component, which deals with assessing the impact and prioritising the measures in the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy for the Western Balkans. The plan of mapping and setting the e-charging stations along the TEN-T corridors were also presented.

Smart and green mobility workshop focused specifically on innovative and digital technologies needed to support green and digital transition. The best international and regional practices in the area of innovation, ITS, e-ticketing and 5 G were presented. The second day focused on climate change challenges to transport infrastructure. The European Commission’s climate proofing guidance and requirements was presented as well as climate-resilience projects in the EU and the Western Balkans. Participants discussed the way forward to climate-resilient infrastructure and setting up climate resilient plans.

The event’s interactive approach provided a chance for all parties to engage, discuss the challenges and a way forward to achieving the goals set towards safer, more efficient, cleaner and responsive to climate challenges transport in the Western Balkans. Two more workshops will take place later in the year in the framework of the same project.
