Adopted in December 2020, the European Commission’s Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy under the European Green Deal set the course for a green, digital, and resilient EU transport system. Building on this, the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community, together with the regional partners, developed a Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy for the Western Balkans to mirror the EU approach, adapt its goals and milestones to regional realities, and provide a clear roadmap for transport decarbonisation and digitalisation. The related technical assistance comprised two components: a cost-effectiveness analysis of the strategy, including baseline assessments of transport emissions, impact scenarios, and tailored action plans with national targets; and a strategic framework for deploying e-charging infrastructure across the region, covering capacity needs for 2030, 2040, and 2050, cost and financing options, and roadmaps with the necessary legal frameworks for each regional partner.
