CHIȘINĂU – On 18 June 2026 in Chișinău, the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community organised a Joint Meeting of the 27th Technical Committee on Railways and the 22nd Technical Committee on Transport of Dangerous Goods, bringing together representatives from South East Europe, observing participants, EU experts and industry partners.

The meeting focused on practical steps to make rail transport safer, more efficient and better connected across the region. Participants discussed progress in aligning with EU rules, implementing the Next Generation Rail Action Plan, improving the transport of dangerous goods and advancing key projects on the extended TEN-T network.

A dedicated session with observing participants provided an opportunity to exchange views on common challenges and priorities, including the development of rail projects, safety standards and the implementation of EU transport rules. The meeting also reviewed progress on major transport infrastructure projects in the Western Balkans and neighbouring regions.

Stronger regional cooperation is essential for safer railways, more reliable connections and better transport services for citizens and businesses. Participants agreed that sharing experience, coordinating reforms and preparing mature infrastructure projects remain crucial for improving connectivity with the European Union.

The agenda also included expert contributions from the European Union Agency for Railways on the role of safety advisers in the transport of dangerous goods, as well as presentations from industry representatives on fleet technology and rolling stock leasing solutions. These discussions highlighted how new technologies and modern equipment can support safer and more sustainable rail transport.
