SEVILLE – The Digital Mobility and ITS Conference for the Western Balkans and Observing Participants takes place on 20 May 2025 in Seville, Spain, as part of the 16th ITS European Congress. The conference gathered authorities and stakeholders from across the Western Balkans, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine to explore how digitalisation and smart transport solutions can transform transport and logistics.
Participants focus on aligning regional efforts with the European Union’s green and digital agenda, unlocking new opportunities through innovation, data sharing, and smarter infrastructure.
The event’s programme includes five sessions covering topics such as regulatory and institutional enablers for digital mobility, autonomous vehicles, smart road infrastructure, multimodal urban mobility, digital rail and road networks, and the digitalisation of freight and logistics. Each session is moderated by members of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community.
High-level speakers include authorities from the region, representatives of DG MOVE, ERTICO, and other key organisations and companies.
Opening the event, Mr Matej Zakonjšek, Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community, pointed out that the Western Balkans and observing participants are accelerating progress and digital transformation by adopting strategies, piloting projects, shaping cross-border digital corridors. “But this transformation must go deeper. It requires interoperable standards, data-driven governance, regulatory alignment with EU frameworks, and above all – cooperation,” he pointed out.
The conference is an opportunity for the region to connect with Europe’s smart mobility ecosystem and contribute to a cleaner, more connected, and resilient European transport network.
Following the conference, on 21 May, the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community will organise the Workshop on Passenger and Freight Digitalisation to explore digitalisation of multimodal passenger transport and innovative technologies, as well as building smart, transparent, and predictive freight systems.
