The Western Balkans Regional Network of Safety Authorities, Investigation Bodies and Railway Regulatory Bodies brings together the institutions responsible for railway safety, accident investigation and market regulation across the Western Balkans. Established through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Podgorica in May 2025, the Network provides a permanent regional platform for cooperation, exchange of information and expertise, and greater harmonisation of safety, investigation and regulatory practices. By strengthening cooperation among national authorities and supporting closer alignment with European Union principles and standards, the Network contributes to building a safer, more efficient and better integrated railway system in the region.
Through regular meetings, technical cooperation and dedicated activities such as training, peer reviews and workshops, the Network supports the exchange of best practices, the development of common investigation approaches and more harmonised safety and regulatory frameworks.Â
